Fonds consists of maps, plans, and drawings collected by faculty in the UNBC School of Planning and Sustainability. The majority of these maps reflect the planning history of the City of Prince George and include large format, hand-drawn plans created by the City Planning Department from the 1970s and 1980s. Maps from City of Prince George Official Community Plans are also included.

Fonds consists of the research records of Dr. Paul Sanborn, a University of Northern British Columbia faculty member in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management.

Emil Bronlund had a Leica camera and took excellent photographs. Several of them appear in "Return to Northern British Columbia" by Jay Sherwood, along with more information about Bronlund. Bronlund put his negatives in a Kodak negative album that holds 100 images. There is a sheet in the album that provides a brief caption for each negative. Bronlund also divided most of the images into groups. Additional information for some of the images is included in this summary of the album.

ALASKAN HIGHWAY PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM. British Columbia: N.D. [ca 1945]. 10 1/4" x 13 1/4" in thick green embossed boards, with title (Photographs) in gilt and tied at spine with green cord. Photo album contains 172 original photographs and 27 real photo postcards. Photographs measure 5 3/4" x 3 1/2," with a majority captioned in manuscript. Through these photos one has visual journey of travel on the newly constructed Alaskan Highway through British Columbia and into the Yukon. The travelers set off from Fort Saint John, passing through Fort Nelson, and seeming to go as far as Watson Lake, just across the border into the Yukon Territory. Along the way, they drove through the Trout River Valley, Steamboat Mountain, Muncho Lake, and many other impressive features of the landscape. The final section of images comprise home photos of the family that made the trip and some photos taken earlier.

Collection consists of reports on fish and fish habitat inventories in watersheds in Northern BC published on computer disks in 1996 through 1998.

Growing collection of strike ephemera from students, CUPE staff, and faculty members at UNBC. Collection includes picketing signs, strike buttons, photographs, art, and videos from pickets and UNBC Faculty Association events during the 2015 and 2019 strikes, as well as posters and other ephemera from the UNBC Occupiers group.

These photographs were taken by an unknown photographer from Department of National Deference Public Relations (Pacific Command) during the 1945 Polar Bear Exercise. This exercise was held in northern British Columbia in February and March 1945, using some 1,150 soldiers of the 6th Division. The intent of the exercise was to test the effects of "wet cold" conditions on military men and material. The scenario for the Polar Bear Exercise was that: "Action will be based on reports of a Japanese force having been landed at Bella Coola from submarines, having rendered useless RCAF installations at Bella Bella, and giving positive indication that this force is composed in great part of construction personnel with a comparatively small protective element; the assumption being that it will try to construct a useable road from Bella Coola to permit movement inland of a larger fighting force to follow at some later date". The exercise itself was conducted in three overlapping phases. Between 12 February and 5 March the force moved from Prince George to Anahim Lake, chiefly using an array of motor transport but with some pack horses. The second phase ran from 4 March to early April. This was a series of marches from Anahim Lake to Bella Coola and return; a secondary force of 19 men split off from the main body and, travelling by snowmobile and snowshoe, traversed the Rainbow Mountains to Bella Coola; on the return march this detachment was increased to 120 men and dubbed "Y" Force. The third phase was removal of all troops by vehicle from Anahim Lake to Williams Lake. These photographs are believed to document the return from Bella Coola.

These historically important aerial photographs depict Williston Lake soon after its creation in 1968 with the building of the W.A.C. Bennett Dam on the Peace River. Also depicted are the rivers and tributaries that empty into the Williston Reservoir, such as the Finlay River, the Ospika River, and the Omineca River.

These remote-sensing aerial photographs were taken by Lockwood Survey Corporation Ltd. under contract for the B.C. Forest Service. Some photographs are annotated to show logging activity; clearcuts, slash piles, log booms, and tree debris on the water are also visible in some of the images. No detailed location information or index accompanies the photographs.

The Upper Fraser Historical Geography Project was conducted by UNBC faculty and a team of researchers between 1999 and 2002. The lead researchers were Aileen Espritiu, Gail Fondahl, Greg Halseth, Debra Straussfogel, and Tracy Summerville. The project resulted in the creation of 93 oral history records and their transcripts. Participants included regional forest industry executives, politicians (including former MLA Ray Williston, local mayors and Fraser Fort George Regional District representatives), forest industry workers, and former and contemporary Upper Fraser community residents. The oral histories document the rise, consolidation and demise of the forestry-based settlements along the Upper Fraser River between 1915 and 2000.

This short colour film depicts logging and sawmill operations at Ferguson Lake in March 1959. Scenes include tree felling, log hauling equipment, the Ferguson Lake lumber yard, use of Ferguson Lake to float logs, and the inside operations of the Ferguson Lake sawmill. Film also includes a brief clip of family film footage of the McKay family home and garden on Melville Street in Prince George with scenes showing a Newfoundland dog named Barney with Donald McKay and Joan McKay.

Fonds consists of records Harry Coates created or received and retained during his career as a BC Forest Service Research Technician and into his retirement as a Sustainable Forest Management activist. Fonds includes materials from his work at the Aleza Lake Research Forest.

Ltd. company and mills as well as materials related to the forest industry in British Columbia and Canada. Fonds includes mayoral records from Bea and Garvin Dezell when Garvin served as Mayor of Prince George as well as materials celebrating Bea Dezell's life created by her family. Fonds also includes fundraising efforts for the Northern Medical Programs Trust. Finally, fonds includes a collection of "spruce" dollars and commemorative coins.

Collection consists of photographs and a film relating to logging operations at the Peden Hill sawmill. Some of the photographs depict other unknown sawmills, one with a dry kiln.

Collection consists of a photograph album from A. H. Holland, a British Columbia Land Surveyor, that was created while working in the Central Interior, the Cariboo, the Chilcotin and southeast British Columbia. This album visually documents steamboat, stagecoach and horse travel in British Columbia and also captures the prepatory work and dawn of the age of rail travel.

Collection consists of 11 digitized images of Prince George in the 1930s. Includes depictions of snow removal, flooding of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, the CNR rail yard, and the railway bridge.

Collection includes a manuscript of James Hackler's San Jose State MA thesis entitled "The Carrier Indians of Lake Babine: The Effect of Western Culture on Their Social Organization". The title of the thesis later became "Factors leading to social disorganization among the Carrier Indians at Lake Babine". The manuscript includes notes and material that was cropped from the published thesis.

Collection consists of a selection of academic research papers from Bill Morrison. Consists of academic works written by Morrison (often in collaboration with Ken Coates), papers presented at conferences, and background material that related to his research.

Fonds consists of records held by the Board of Governors relating to the history of the University of Northern British Columbia and the operations of its Board of Governors. Includes records relating to the Interior University Society, the Interim Governing Council and its committees, the Prince George Campus Committee, the Executive Committee, and the Endowment Investment Committee. Also includes Board of Governors meeting minutes and financial records.

This fonds consists of material created and collected by Kent Sedgwick, author, professor, Prince George urban planner, and prominent local historian. This body of records documents Sedgwick’s research interests in the history and geography of the Central Interior of British Columbia. The fonds also reflects his work as a Prince George Senior City Planner, his involvement in local community organizations, and his teaching at the College of New Caledonia and the University of Northern British Columbia.

The fonds includes:
1) Photographs taken by Kent Sedgwick across British Columbia, predominantly in the Central Interior region;
2) Research subject files consisting of original research documentation and collected reference material, predominantly focusing on topics relating to local history, city planning, and geography in the Prince George area and the British Columbia Central Interior;

Collection consists of digitized home videos created by the Viksten family. The videos include scenes of Horsefly Lake and the Williams Lake Stampede.

Fonds consists of documents providing information on the Columbia Cellulose Company, Limited covering the period of 1959-1970. These documents detail the company’s history, historical and geographical context, and plans for the future. Files often include photographs, maps, and technical drawings of the mills.

Fonds consists of records in speakers at the 2009 Annual General Meeting in Prince George and all of the FHABC newsletters along a with other publications up to March 2020, Issue 105.

Collection consists of eight interviews with experts reviewing A Guidebook for Improving Aboriginal Participation in Forest Management Decision-Making, later published with the title The Aboriginal Forest Planning Process: A Guidebook for Identifying Community-Level Criteria and Indicators by Melanie Karjala, Erin Sherry, and Stephen Dewhurst in 2003. The reviewers were chosen based on their expertise and interest in Aboriginal participation in forest management decision-making. They were asked to provide their opinions on issues related to Aboriginal participation in decision-making processes in BC, as well as feedback on the Aboriginal Forest Planning Process (AFPP) Guidebook. Reviewers had the option to make their review confidential resulting in the return or destruction of the interview. Eight of the original twenty-nine interviews are archived in this collection; the remainder are no longer extant.

A collection of postcard photographs of Port Essington BC, Port Simpson BC, Atlin, Quesnel, McBride, Hagwilget Village, Giscome, Likely, Kitwanga, Smithers, Prince Rupert BC, Prince (Fort) George BC Images depict street scenes, water scenes, community events, businesses, buildings, and aerials of the towns. Collection also depicts a number of Northern BC paddle wheelers.

Collection includes approximately 940 slides taken during the construction of the Tumbler Ridge Electric Railway during the early 1980s. Locations include the Anzac siding, the BC Rail Stuart subdivision, the Chetwynd subdivision, the Parsnip River area, Quintette, the Table River area, railway pipeline crossings, and the Wolverine River area, among others.

The photographs depict the geographic areas of Stewart, BC, Boundary Pass, Nelson River, Bitter Creek Glacier, Portland Canal, Red Cliff and Bear Creek; as well as the ships “Camosun” and “S.S. Prince George.” Types of subjects identified in this collection include: community life, surveying, mining and transportation (i.e. dog-sledding, horse and buggy, and the Portland Canal Short Line Railway “P.C.S.L. Rlwy”).

This photograph collection consists of 53 photographs featuring primarily Giscome with a few of Prince George. Subjects include the Eagle Lake Sawmill, Eagle Lake, Giscome townsite (including specific buildings and general road perspectives), Giscome School, Division II class photos (1950-51), and the Giscome School teacherage.

This collection contains two tapes of interviews by Kent Sedgwick and Megan Heitrich, and one tape by Megan Heitrich alone. Interviews focus primarily upon the Japanese Internment during WWII in the Prince George – Valemount corridor. The interviews are with women who lived near an internment camp during the war, and had some contact with the Japanese men.

The interviewees were selected for having mentioned the Japanese internment in prior interviews: Louisa Mueller and Ruth Cunningham in interviews by the Prince George Oral History Group, and Karlleen Robinson in “A History of Logs and Lumber.” In the Cunningham Interview, Ruth’s daughter Lillian Coulling is also present.

Collection contains photographs depicting community life in Prince George, B.C. Images depict holiday events, sports teams, government buildings, businesses (hotels, banks, retail, newspaper office), riverboats, railroad construction, fishing, a cemetery, street scenes, aerials, and landscapes. Also includes photos taken outside of the Prince George vicinity including Prairie Creek, Thomas Creek and Barkerville, B.C.

This Collection consists of photographs documenting early development of the Central Interior including such subjects as: homesteading, railway construction, packing & freighting, modes and routes of transportation, schools, mercantile development, leisurely activities, sports, natural resource development and exploitation, political movements, town-site development and policing. This collection also provides a look at history of the Taylor-Baxter Family - a long time pioneering family of this region, including: A.K. & Lillian Bourchier; Hugh & Hermina "Minnie" (nee Wessel) Taylor and family; Herbert & Sarah (nee Wessel) Glassey; and Bob & Violet (nee Taylor) Baxter and family.

Subject areas identified in this collection include: church and hospital buildings (including nurses quarters); group photos featuring doctors, nurses, and hospital workers; grave markers; landscapes; processing of oolichan fish; and various church-related events such as weddings and church openings.
