The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) is an independent, non-partisan research institute concerned with issues of social, economic environmental justice. Founded in 1980, the CCPA is one of Canada’s leading progressive voices in public policy debates. The CCPA publishes on a wide range of social, economic and environmental issues in formats that include research studies, short commentaries, articles in "The Monitor" (monthly national research magazine) and monographs. Series consists of the 46 oral histories conducted by the Island Cache Recovery Project. A file exists for each participant in the research project, which includes the original recorded oral history on cassette tape and/or VHS, consent forms for use of the oral history, a written transcript for the oral history, and a digital version of the written transcript. The Island Cache series consists of 17 images photographed in April 1970 by students involved in a Geography class at the College of New Caledonia. They record the community of Island Cache before the major flood in the spring of 1972

The Cottonwood Island series consists of 36 images photographed by J. Kent Sedgwick when he was an instructor in Geography at the College of New Caledonia. The images were taken in support of a proposal by the New Caledonia Institute of Environmental Studies to create a municipal park at Cottonwood Island

Series consists of Alderdice’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project and his activities as a fisheries biologist. Early material includes research records on total gas pressure and flow analysis research, particularly in regards to the Nechako River, which Alderdice was working on in anticipation of the Nechako River court action. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1984 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, and legal documents. Records created by Alderdice after his retirement from DFO in 1987 document his involvement with the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review and his connection to the Siddon v. Mair court case. Also includes copies of publications related to Alderdice’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings.

Series consists of Mundie’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project. Mainly includes copies of publications related to Mundie’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, and government publications. Also includes a small portion of correspondence and internal DFO memoranda regarding the Nechako River court action.

Series consists of Hartman’s records and collected material related to his activities as a research scientist, particularly his involvement in the Kemano Completion Project. The majority of the material consists of copies of publications related to Hartman’s research, many of which were written or annotated by him, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Includes correspondence regarding the Nechako River court action between DFO, Alcan, and the province and scientific reports that were created in anticipation of the case. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and the final report. In addition, includes records and publications relating to the Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, the Nechako Watershed Council, the Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund, and the Nechako River Alliance.

Series consists of Shirvell’s records and collected material related to his activities as a research scientist, particularly his involvement in the Kemano Completion Project. Shirvell’s records are arranged into six subseries:

• literature review, consisting of published material;
• research and publications, consisting of Shirvell’s publications and research material;
• Envirocon and Alcan, consisting of Envirocon and Alcan publications and records;
• Nechako River court action, consisting of records related to the DFO-Alcan court case;
• Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, consisting of material relating to NFCP; and,
• BCUC Kemano Completion Project Review, consisting of records relating to Shirvell’s participation in the public review.
  The majority of the material in all subseries consists of copies of publications related to Shirvell’s activities and research, many of which were written or annotated by him, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Shirvell’s research records comprise raw data, field notes, memoranda, and draft reports, many of which relate to his 1986 Nechako River salmon overwintering studies. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1980 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, legal documents, and related scientific reports. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and the final report.

This series consists of the typed Prince George Kiwanis History, 1957-68 ; PG Kiwanis Members Roster, 1967 ; agendas, installation invitation cards, and programmes, 1960s-70s ; files of correspondence relating to the Robert P. Connelly Medal ; 2 files relating to the Spruce Dollar history ; miscellaneous photos of Spruce Dollar ; and brochures from the Kiwanis Clubs of Dawson Creek, Williams Lake, Kitimat and Prince George.

This series consists of a 1961 letter from Walter Sage to George Baldwin answering historical queries regarding Simon Fraser and associated other Frasers in B.C. ; Royal Arch Masonry, Prince Geogre Chapter, history, including two speeches by George Baldwin and a Quesnel Lodge brochure ; typed history of Barkerville Cairn ; and miscellaneous photographs, including 3 colour snapshots of unidentified people in front of BC Rail and cars (c. 1970) and 9 black and white snapshots of a canoe parade in Fort George and street parade lumber promotions (c. 1960).

This series consists of the August 1963 edition of Alaska newsletter "News Digest of the Far North" (Vol. 2 No. 8) ; 14 August 1963 newspaper "Jessen's Weekly" ; and the summer 1962 Whitehorse Nugget.

Series contains records created and accumulated by Adam Zimmerman at the Noranda Inc. (formerly Noranda Mines) corporate office in Toronto during his tenures as Assistant Comptroller (1958-1961), Comptroller (1961-1966), Vice-President and Comptroller (1966-1974), Executive Vice-President (1974-1982), President and CEO (1982-1987), and Vice-Chairman (1987-1992). Includes administrative records, information regarding events attended by Zimmerman and other Noranda executives, government liaison material, financial records, human resources records, and documents regarding Noranda's many and various acquisitions and investments.

Series contains records created and accumulated by Adam Zimmerman at the Noranda Inc. (formerly Noranda Mines) during his tenures as Noranda's Assistant Comptroller (1958-1961), Comptroller (1961-1966), Vice-President and Comptroller (1966-1974), Executive Vice-President and Director (1974-1982), and President and CEO (1982-1987). As Noranda's Comptroller, Zimmerman had a large role in Noranda Mines' legal action regarding the strike at Gaspe Copper Mines; records that represent this are contained in the legal records sub-subseries. Later in his career, as a director and Noranda's President and CEO, Zimmerman had a high-level administrative role with Noranda's mining division. Sub-subseries represent this with administrative records and reference files for Noranda's many mining and metallurgical operations.

Also contains records regarding Noranda's exploration companies and the Noranda Sales Corporation, which sold and marketed the mining division's ore and products.

In 1974, Adam Zimmerman was appointed Executive Vice-President and a director of Noranda Mines Ltd., with the responsibility for the manufacturing and forest products activities of the company. Series contains administrative records regarding the manufacturing division and Noranda Manufacturing Ltd. Also includes records of Noranda's manufacturing companies: Canada Wire and Cable, the Free Piston Development Company, Noranda Aluminum, Noranda Metal Industries, and Wire Rope Industries.

Adam Zimmerman was involved from the very beginnings of Noranda Mine's foray into the forest industry sector. In April 1961, Zimmerman was part of making the deal to acquire National Forest Products, Noranda's first forest products company, which was renamed Northwood Mills after its purchase. By 1964, he was the President (and later Chairman) of Northwood Mills and Northwood Pulp. In 1974, Zimmerman was appointed Executive Vice-President of Noranda, which included responsibility for the forest products activities of the company. When Noranda underwent a major company reorganization in 1987, Zimmerman became CEO of Noranda Forest Inc. By the end of his Noranda career, Zimmerman had had an executive or director role in nearly every forest product company developed or acquired by Noranda. That included: Northwood Mills, Northwood Pulp (and its successors Northwood Pulp & Timber and Northwood Forest Industries), Noranda Forest Inc., BC Chemicals, BC Forest Products, Bulkley Valley Forest Industries, Fraser Inc., Maclaren, and Macmillan Bloedel, among others. The records in this series demonstrate Adam Zimmerman's extensive involvement in Noranda's forestry division throughout his career.

As a leader in Canada's forest industry, Adam Zimmerman was a member of many Canadian forest industry associations and councils. Throughout his career he also founded or was chairman of a number of such councils. This series includes records of Zimmerman's involvement with the Canadian Forest Industries Council (CFIC), the Canadian Softwood Lumber Committee (CSLC), the Business Council on National Issues (BCNI), the Canadian Forestry Advisory Council (CFAC), the Canadian Pulp & Paper Association (CPPA), the Forest Industries Advisory Committee (FIAC), the Forest Products Employee Relations Council (FPERC), the Forest Sector Advisory Council (FSAC), Forest Products Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade (SAGIT), the "Group of Seven", and the Pulp & Paper Research Institute Of Canada (PPRIC).

Adam Zimmerman held many external directorships with companies and organizations outside of Noranda. In these roles, Zimmerman provided a creative contribution and improvement to the company boards by providing dispassionate and objective criticism, as well as and contributing to the development strategy of the company. He was not an employee of these companies; he held these external directorships roles while simultaneously being a senior executive with Noranda.

The records in this series are only a representative fraction of the external directorships held by Zimmerman. These include board of director records from Algoma Steel, Koninklijke Nederlandse Papierfabriek (KNP), non-profit organizations, universities, and other companies. Also includes correspondence, fundraising material, and meeting materials.

Series consists of five files which are related to surveying experiences in northern BC from 1931 and 1934, personal documents belonging to Phipps and his wife Dorothy Summer Phipps, and documents from the time when Phipps was working in South Africa.

Series consists of three albums and loose photos, most of which relating to the surveying of Northern BC between 1929 – 1935. The albums in particular, feature photographs from 1929, 1931 and 1935; while the loose photos are mostly dated from 1934 when the Bedaux Expedition was initiated.

This collection consists of 1 photo album originally belonging to Sydney E. Junkins which contains 23 photographs and 4 sectional linen maps which depict Hon. Dr.James Horace King and party's trip down the Peace River from 19 to 31 August 1927. Includes a hand-written and typed copy of "Peace River Trip" itinerary for a subsequent trip 8-15 September 1927.

The images consists primarily of 130+ photographs taken by or belonging to Reverend R.W. Large, MD which depict communities on the Northwest Coast between approximately 1898 and 1920 including Bella Bella, Rivers Inlet, and Port Simpson, including native villages in which Reverend Large worked. Images show scenes of native fishing, canneries, mission hospitals, churches, girls schools, portraits of native families, and Northwest Coast totems. Other images include 25+ photographs and postcards from the Large family depicting ships and boats on the North Coast.

Series consists of 39 Kodachrome colour slides ca. 1960s taken from ships of ocean scenes and weather balloon launches from unidentified locations, possibly North Coast but also includes images of an unidentified tropical location.

Photograph album contains 86 black and white photographs depicting various aspects of life and construction in Fort Fraser in the pre World War I era.

The images comprising the Photographs Series of the Alex Manson Mining Collection, document various mining related activities such as: road construction, mining sites, mining equipment, individuals involved in various aspects of the mining industry in Northern British Columbia, digging of ditchlines, bridge construction, surveying, extraction techniques, Germansen Placer pipelines, mining camps and the transportation of mining equipment by bulldozer and horse and wagon.
