    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of original, silent 16mm reels that portray the natural, social and land use history of the Bella Coola and Chilcotin regions named the "Natural and Guiding History of the Bella Coola and Chilcotin Regions".

    Possible locations that Al Elsey filmed include: Bella Coola, Bella Bella, Anahim Lake, Alert Bay, Nimpo Lake, Bulkey Valley, the Rainbow Mountains, Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, Dean River, Bella Coola River, Tchaha Lake, the Chilcotin region, the Ulkatcho Mountains, Lassard Lake, Fenton Lake, Atnarko River, Wells Gray Park, and Holt Homestead.

        In 2011 the 16mm films were digitized and are available as digital files and on DVD. Digitization and finding aid development was financially supported by a private foundation.

        Restrictions on access

        Films available via usage of digitized access copies. Access to original film masters are restricted for conservation reasons. See archivist for details.

        Finding aids

        There are two finding aids available. One finding aid orders the films according to the accession number and is entitled "Summaries of Al Elsey Original Footage 16mm Film". The other orders the films according to the order the original films were recorded onto VHS format and is entitled "Summaries of Al Elsey Recorded Original Footage".
