Adam Zimmerman held many external directorships with companies and organizations outside of Noranda. In these roles, Zimmerman provided a creative contribution and improvement to the company boards by providing dispassionate and objective criticism, as well as and contributing to the development strategy of the company. He was not an employee of these companies; he held these external directorships roles while simultaneously being a senior executive with Noranda.

The records in this series are only a representative fraction of the external directorships held by Zimmerman. These include board of director records from Algoma Steel, Koninklijke Nederlandse Papierfabriek (KNP), non-profit organizations, universities, and other companies. Also includes correspondence, fundraising material, and meeting materials.

Adam Zimmerman was involved from the very beginnings of Noranda Mine's foray into the forest industry sector. In April 1961, Zimmerman was part of making the deal to acquire National Forest Products, Noranda's first forest products company, which was renamed Northwood Mills after its purchase. By 1964, he was the President (and later Chairman) of Northwood Mills and Northwood Pulp. In 1974, Zimmerman was appointed Executive Vice-President of Noranda, which included responsibility for the forest products activities of the company. When Noranda underwent a major company reorganization in 1987, Zimmerman became CEO of Noranda Forest Inc. By the end of his Noranda career, Zimmerman had had an executive or director role in nearly every forest product company developed or acquired by Noranda. That included: Northwood Mills, Northwood Pulp (and its successors Northwood Pulp & Timber and Northwood Forest Industries), Noranda Forest Inc., BC Chemicals, BC Forest Products, Bulkley Valley Forest Industries, Fraser Inc., Maclaren, and Macmillan Bloedel, among others. The records in this series demonstrate Adam Zimmerman's extensive involvement in Noranda's forestry division throughout his career.

(Northwood Recreation Association) activities; Northwood’s 25-year Anniversary celebrations held at Houston, Upper Fraser, North Central Plywood, Shelley, and Prince George Sawmills, as well as at the Northwood Pulp & Timber mill; silviculture and forest harvesting practices; sawmill and pulp mill general operations; logging camps; the building of logging roads and bridges; and Northwood’s own unique heavy equipment, such as the locomotives, the snowplow and the refurbished 1942 fire engine. Also included in this photographic collection are images documenting Northwood Pulp & Timber’s original construction (1964-65), and subsequent expansion (1980 – 1981); aerial perspectives; machinery details; employees at work, or receiving awards and certifications; corporate portraiture; office "spirit" events; corporate outreach activities such as open houses or public displays and demonstrations; and images depicting Northwood’s relationship with the community, such as donations of special reading equipment for the visually impaired, donations of food to the Salvation Army food bank, and corporate financial support for the University of Northern British Columbia.

Series consists of Alderdice’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project and his activities as a fisheries biologist. Early material includes research records on total gas pressure and flow analysis research, particularly in regards to the Nechako River, which Alderdice was working on in anticipation of the Nechako River court action. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1984 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, and legal documents. Records created by Alderdice after his retirement from DFO in 1987 document his involvement with the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review and his connection to the Siddon v. Mair court case. Also includes copies of publications related to Alderdice’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings.
