Subseries consists of Dr. Ainley's requests for funding for a variety of projects throughout her career. Most of Ainley's research was funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grants but she also applied for funding from other sources. These research projects include "First Nations Women and Environmental Knowledge in Northern North America - A Preliminary Investigation," "Biographical Research on Women Scientists in Canada," "Women and Scientific Work in Canada, 1890-1960," "Engendering Science: Twelve Biographies," "Women and Scientific Work in Canada. III. "Women's Work in Government and Industry, 1890-1990," "Engendering Canadian Scientists," and her research on Mabel McIntosh. Not all of these projects were accepted and funded. Subseries predominately consists of grant application forms and correspondence with granting agencies.

Files usually include interview transcripts, consent forms, any related correspondence, photocopied research materials, and notes.

Subseries consists of materials relating to Dr. Ainley's publications including magazine and journal articles, book reviews, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries. Files often contain photocopies of her publications, any related correspondence, reviews of Ainley's publications, drafts and unpublished papers, and publishing and copyright agreements. The topics of these works include women in science and ornithology.

Subseries documents the research for Ainley's monograph, originally titled, "Overlooked Dimensions: Women and Scientific Work at Canadian Universities, 1884-1980." The monograph draws on research from previous research projects and was conceptualized as a culmination of Ainley's life's work. The monograph was incomplete at the time of her death and was published posthumously after being edited by Marlene Rayner-Canham and Geoff Rayner-Canham under the title "Creating Complicated Lives: Women and Science at English-Canadian Universities, 1880-1980." Originally scheduled to be published by UBC press shortly after Ainley's death in 2008, the manuscript was published by the McGill-Queen's University Press in 2012. Subseries consists of articles and excerpts from publications by Ainley and others, audio recordings of interviews and presentations, notes, drafts, and correspondence.

Subseries reflects Dr. Ainley's extensive research on indigenous science and traditional knowledge and how it transferred to European settlers in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Much of this research culminated in Dr. Ainley's unfinished monograph project "Re-explorations: new perspectives on gender, environment and the transfer of knowledge in 19th and 20th century Canada and Australia." Material is, predominately, arranged by individual, with files largely consisting of bibliographies, articles and notes about and by the individual on topics related to the environment and interaction with indigenous peoples. Subseries also contains research notes, interviews, and correspondence. Subseries documents research about Mabel F. Timlin for Ainley's article, "Mabel F. Timlin, 1891-1976: A Woman Economist in the World of Men", published in a special edition of Atlantis: A Women's StudiesJournal on economics in 1999; a description of Timlin for the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan in 2005; and a contribution to a tribute for Timlin in the Canadian Women Economists Network Newsletter in 1995. Subseries consists of photocopies of correspondence between Timlin and others; photocopies of biographical information on Timlin; drafts and published manuscripts; a call for submissions; correspondence relating to Ainley's submission to Atlantis; an interview summary; and photocopies of articles written by and about Timlin.

Subseries includes works collected by G. Gary Runka. Runka collected a comprehensive resource library of publications, reports, and rare grey literature that reflected the depth and breadth of natural resource issues in British Columbia. Material from this resource library was intrinsically tied to Runka's work; selected unique items from the resource library are contained within this sub-series to contextualize the scope of land management issues.

Gary Runka was a hobbyist photographer and documented his work and personal life through photography as he travelled across every region of British Columbia. This slide collection documents the evolution of British Columbia communities and regions over a 30 year period. Gary Runka's core interest was land and changing land uses. Many of these slides tell a story of urban edge and/or natural resource compatibility/conflict. There are also a substantial number of slides related to soils, including soil profiles, soil erosion and land (topography, drainage etc.) capability for agriculture. The collection also includes specific client-related photos, tied to Land Sense Ltd. client file job numbers.

The collection also documents personal travels and hiking trips throughout British Columbia and backpacking in some historic areas, such as West Coast Trail and Cape Scott. These slides also represent land evolution over time, including extent of alpine glaciation or biodiversity/plant species inhabiting the area.

The majority of these records are directly tied to Land Sense Ltd. client files (Series 2020.4.6) and likely represent the digital originals of some of the files represented within that Client Files Series.

Subseries consists of speeches written and delivered by G. Gary Runka over the course of his career. Runka's earliest speeches relate to the Canada Land Inventory. While at the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC), Runka was often asked to present to various audiences on BC's unique agricultural land preservation program, the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). After leaving the ALC and setting up Land Sense Ltd., Runka continued to make presentations on the ALR, both specifically and in the context of rural land use conflict in general. Runka's key message was very consistent - the importance of first understanding the inherent biophysical messages of the land; then recognizing the complex challenges of sorting out who gets to use which rural lands for what purposes. Runka's speeches were often accompanied with 35mm slides from his slide collection. Unfortunately, however, the speeches do not include a listing of the slides that were used, although a notebook remains that contains references to slides used in presentations.

Subseries contains material created over the course of Kent Sedgwick’s involvement with the Prince George Heritage Commission between 1978 and 2006. The files include correspondence, meeting minutes, typed documents, and research materials collected for heritage projects. Some of the heritage projects Kent Sedgwick was involved in include the creation of a heritage inventory record, particularly heritage houses; developing L.C. Gunn Park; and creating interpretive signage for historic locations throughout Prince George.

Subseries contains material collected and created by Kent Sedgwick regarding heritage tours he conducted in Prince George and the East Line communities for various events. The files primarily include notes and photographs used by Sedgwick for these tours. He conducted tours for the Heritage Society of British Columbia, the British Columbia Historical Federation, the Western Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers, the Planning Institute of British Columbia, and the Heritage BC Conference. The tours consisted of walking throughout downtown Prince George and recognizing the heritage of the area.

Subseries consists of material created and collected by Kent Sedgwick during his involvement with the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail Association. Sedgwick was the treasurer and later the president of the Alexander Mackenzie Voyageur Route Association. The association was formed to create the first official heritage trail in British Columbia. The trail is now called the Nuxalk-Carrier Grease Trail and is part of the route across Canada followed by Alexander Mackenzie in 1789 to 1793. The association aided in having the route recognized by each provincial government and the federal government. The files primarily consist of management plans, summary documents, booklets, and pamphlets created by the association, the provincial government, and Parks Canada.

These files include material on neighbourhoods and notable areas within the city, as well as the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. Notable areas include the Fort George Canyon, downtown Prince George, and Cottonwood Island. The files primarily contain notes and newspaper clippings relating to the development and history of these areas.

The Lheidli T'enneh are a sub-group of the Dakelh people whose traditional territory includes the city of Prince George, British Columbia. These files primarily consist of material regarding the original Lheidli T'enneh reserve and cemetery, the reserve relocation, and the desecration of the cemetery.

The research on schools aided the development of a history of schools for the Prince George Retired Teachers' Association.

Subseries consists of material collected by Kent Sedgwick for research regarding the communities along the East Line of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway in Central British Columbia, particularly between Prince George and McBride. These communities and locations include, among others, Shelley, Willow River, Sinclair Mills, Longworth, Dunster, Tete Jaune, Valemount, Mount Robson, and the Yellowhead Pass. Research on these communities was conducted during Kent Sedgwick's involvement in the UNBC-led Upper Fraser Historical Geography Project. Subseries includes material collected by Kent Sedgwick regarding the Duke of Sutherland. The Duke of Sutherland is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The fourth Duke of Sutherland was Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower who lived from 1851 to 27 June 1913. Toward the end of his life, the 4th Duke began moving his wealth and life to Canada. The Duke owned land across British Columbia and Alberta and contributed to various settlements, including Strathnaver, BC; Windermere, BC; Brooks, AB; and Clyde, AB. The Duke of Sutherland owned the Sutherland Land Company, creating and selling plots in BC and Alberta. He also worked closely with the Canadian Pacific Railway to support immigration and settlement of the area.

Subseries consists of lecture notes, photocopied readings, course outlines and other material for the UNBC course taught by Weller “Social and Health Policy and Administration.” The files also contain material that appears to predate the course.

Land surveys were conducted in British Columbia by surveyors George Dawson, the North Coast Land Company, Alfred R.C. Selwyn, and the Geological Survey of Canada during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. James C. Anderson and engineer J. Gill conducted topographical surveys for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway on Fort George and the Indian Reserve. Surveyors and land plot companies developed the land for sale to promote settlement in the area. Also includes materials regarding the continued development of the City of Prince George throughout the 20th century. The files primarily consist of newspaper clippings, research notes, and photocopied documents.
