Series consists of Shirvell’s records and collected material related to his activities as a research scientist, particularly his involvement in the Kemano Completion Project. Shirvell’s records are arranged into six subseries:

• literature review, consisting of published material;
• research and publications, consisting of Shirvell’s publications and research material;
• Envirocon and Alcan, consisting of Envirocon and Alcan publications and records;
• Nechako River court action, consisting of records related to the DFO-Alcan court case;
• Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, consisting of material relating to NFCP; and,
• BCUC Kemano Completion Project Review, consisting of records relating to Shirvell’s participation in the public review.
  The majority of the material in all subseries consists of copies of publications related to Shirvell’s activities and research, many of which were written or annotated by him, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Shirvell’s research records comprise raw data, field notes, memoranda, and draft reports, many of which relate to his 1986 Nechako River salmon overwintering studies. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1980 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, legal documents, and related scientific reports. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and the final report.

Series consists of Alderdice’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project and his activities as a fisheries biologist. Early material includes research records on total gas pressure and flow analysis research, particularly in regards to the Nechako River, which Alderdice was working on in anticipation of the Nechako River court action. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1984 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, and legal documents. Records created by Alderdice after his retirement from DFO in 1987 document his involvement with the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review and his connection to the Siddon v. Mair court case. Also includes copies of publications related to Alderdice’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings.

Series consists of Hartman’s records and collected material related to his activities as a research scientist, particularly his involvement in the Kemano Completion Project. The majority of the material consists of copies of publications related to Hartman’s research, many of which were written or annotated by him, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Includes correspondence regarding the Nechako River court action between DFO, Alcan, and the province and scientific reports that were created in anticipation of the case. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and the final report. In addition, includes records and publications relating to the Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, the Nechako Watershed Council, the Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund, and the Nechako River Alliance.

Series consists of Mundie’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project. Mainly includes copies of publications related to Mundie’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, and government publications. Also includes a small portion of correspondence and internal DFO memoranda regarding the Nechako River court action.

Collection consists of 1 map of "Status of Sustained-Yield Forestry Programme as at December 31, 1969" by British Columbia Department of Lands, Forests, and Water Resources and 10 pages of handwritten instructions for opening a ranger station in Smithers and annual Forest Insect and Disease Survey, dated 1980.

File consists of a faxed copy of the document "Nechako River Flow Requirements for Fish and Fish Habitat: Technical Position of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans" and accompanying memoranda.

File consists of drafts and background material for Shirvell's expert report for the Nechako court action. Includes a photocopy of an article by Neilson and Banford entitled "Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) Spawner Characteristics in Relation to Redd Physical Features"; "In Defense of the Instream Flow Incremental Methodology" by Orth and Maughan; handwritten drafts of Shirvell's expert report; handwritten notes about the subject matter in the report; hand drawn graphs; a "Synopsis of key IFIM related testimony and evidence before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in the Philadelphia Electric Power Company (Conowinga Dam) Case"; "Expert Report for the Nechako River Court Action - J.H. Mundie"; drafts of Shirvell's "Review of Incremental-Type Methodology for Assessing Reduced Streamflows and its Application to Alcan's Proposed Kemano Completion Hydroelectric Development"; and a "Technical Statement for Nechako River Court Action - DFO vs. ALCAN: Habitat Modelling" by Cole Shirvell. File consists of speaking notes and conference proceedings; instructions for abstract submissions; abstracts; drafts of biographies of women scientists; correspondence; a short biography of David Ainley; A short story by David Ainley; notes; and a curriculum vitae.

File consists of outlines, notes and drafts sections of "Creating Complicated Lives: Women and Science at English-Canadian Universities, 1880-1980."
