Biographical history

June Swanky Parker is a Prince George artist and member of the "Milltown Six"- a group of female artists from Prince George including: Doris Ditarro, Caroline Moorehouse, Ann Bogle, Vivian Antoniw, Ruth Hanse.

Scope and content

Consists of June Swanky Parker's Trip Diary (1990-1991) compiled during Alexander MacKenzie bi-centennial exploratory trips for an exhibition entitled: "In the Footsteps of Alexander Mackenzie on the Nuxalt-Carrier Grease Trail"

Diary begins Sept. 21, 1990, ends August 25, 1991 and consists of :

  • 34 Handwritten entries
  • 17 Watercolour sketches and 7 pen or pencil sketches
  • 49 Photographs of the trip and of resulting artworks

Trip embarked upon by the “Milltown Six”: Caroline Moorhouse, June Parker, Ruth Hansen, Vivian Antoniw, Anne Bogle and Doris Dittaro.

Diary divided into 8 sections:

    June Swanky Parker donated her painting #16 (a piece inspired by this trek) entitled "Native Graves - Ulkatcho" to UNBC where it now resides as a part of the University's Artworks Collection. Photographs of this particular painting and other versions of it can be found in this diary.
