Language and script note
Historical language note: This newspaper issue includes the ethnic slur "nigger". Use of this term is considered extremely racist and offensive. The use of the term in this archival record is within the context of an anti-racism newspaper opinion piece. This historical language has been maintained in its original form, in keeping with archival practice, to preserve the context in which the records were created. This approach, while potentially upsetting, allows for the critical assessment and questioning of historical material by contemporary researchers. Please see our Statement on Language in Archival Descriptions for more on on how we are working to address problematic issues in the archival record in a way that balances with our modern context.
