Billy Edmund collection

Collection consists of 5 yellow cedar carvings by Billy Edmund. The three unpainted carvings are entitled "Raven," "Flying Hawk," and "Raven, Bear, Salmon and Beaver Totem." The final two carvings, both entitled "Salmon," are painted in red, black and teal.

Fonds consists of personal papers, books, manuscripts, photographic materials, audio recordings and electronic records arranged into five series, which relate to Mr. Fawcett's personal life, his creative works and his relationships with members of the literary community.

Poetry

Series consists of unpublished poetry and published poetry anthologies by Brian Fawcett, including "Permanent Relationships" (1975), "Creatures of State" (1977), "Tristram's Book" (1981), and "Aggressive Transport" (1982). Fawcett stopped publishing poetry after 1982, although he did not stop producing it. These "suppressed poems" are also included. Many poems are untitled and unidentified.

Short Fiction

Series consists of draft manuscripts and published anthologies of short stories, including "My Career with the Leafs and Other Stories" (1982), "Capital Tales" (1984), "The Secret Journal of Alexander Mackenzie" (1985), "Cambodia: A Book for People Who Find Television Too Slow" (1986), and "Public Eye: An Investigation into the Disappearance of the World" (1990).

Includes manuscripts and notes for "The Opening: Prince George, Finally" (1974) and "Gender Wars: A Novel and Some Conversation about Sex and Gender" (1994). Series consists of draft manuscripts and published editions of Brian Fawcett's non-fiction work, including "Unusual Circumstances, Interesting Times and Other Impolite Interventions" (1991), "The Compact Garden: Discovering the Pleasures of Planting in a Small Space" (1992), "The Disbeliever's Dictionary: A Completely Disrespectful Lexicon of Canada Today" (1997), "Virtual Clearcut, or The Way Things Are in my Hometown" (2003), and "Local Matters: A Defence of Dooney's Cafe and other Non-Globalized Places, People, and Ideas" (2003). Also includes manuscripts for various unpublished or revised works, as well as many miscellaneous essays and articles written for periodicals.
