The fonds consists of audio reels and dubbed audio cassettes of a radio programs hosted by Jack Carbutt at CKPG Radio in Prince George, and includes transcriptions in electronic and textual format. The fonds consists of 14 binders of photocopied material. The original materials include notebooks, diaries and loose pages. The Smith Family photograph album was copied onto cd-rom, as were digital pictures of Smith Family artifacts and some documents. A small number of photographs were photographically copied. Includes photographs of Arthur Gordon Smith, Anne Clarice Smith, and Marcus Smith.

Prince Rupert Empire collection

The collection consists of 9 photographs and copies of photographs showing scenes of Prince Rupert and area, groups of townspeople, a stone totem pole at Metlakatla, and a man poling a dug-out canoe probably on the Skeena River. It includes two newspaper clippings, one from the BC Saturday Sunset dated September 14, 1912 and another from The Globe dated Saturday March 23, 1907. The bound volumes of the Prince Rupert Empire newspaper were transferred to Special Collections. See accompanying note.

The Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum Society Collection consists primarily of textual, photographic, and cartographic records related to the regional developments of the railway industry in Northern BC. A predominant portion of the collection is made up of material from the Canadian National Railway; other railways represented include the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail), the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Intercolonial Railway, and the Okanagan Express. Significant geographical areas covered include Prince George, the Peace River Region, Terrace, Bulkley Valley, Hazelton and Prince Rupert.

The forestry industry is represented in the collection with operational and financial records from Fyfe Lake Sawmill Ltd., which operated southwest of Prince George in the 1950s.

The collection has been organized into series according to creator, each of which also has been arranged to subseries, file and item level, where applicable. This collection consists of eight series, as follows:

The Fred Jeffery Collection consists of three photograph albums comprising a total of 303 b&w photographs all dating from ca.1924-1933. The subject matter of these images consist primarily of the fishing industry, river & landscapes, salmon cannery images (housing, people, workers, machinery, boats) on the Nass River and North Pacific Coast. Notable are the photographs depicting indigenous (Nisga'a) people and places and Chinese and Japanese cannery workers. Identified canneries featured in these photographs include: Mill Bay Cannery, Namu Cannery, Klemtu Cannery, Shushartie Bay Cannery, Balmoral Cannery, North Pacific Cannery, Nass Harbour Cannery, Port Essington Cannery, Kitwanga Cannery, Port Nelson Cannery, Alert Bay Cannery, Dominion Cannery and ABC Co. Cannery. Photographs also include images of the Canadian Pacific Railway in both Vancouver and Sicamous, BC., as well as, images of the Legislative Assembly buildings in Victoria, the 1924 Special Service Squadron ships in Vancouver, early construction of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and town overviews of Yokohama, Japan (pre WWII).

Island Cache Recovery Project Collection

Includes oral history interviews of former Island Cache (Cottonwood Island) residents on recording media (cassette and VHS) as well as transcripts of the oral histories. Collection consists of records regarding the Kemano Completion Project collected by four scientists that were involved in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans review of Alcan’s project. The majority of the material consists of copies of publications related to the scientists’ research and activities, many of which were written or annotated by them, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Original scientific research records comprise raw data, field notes, memoranda, and draft reports. Includes correspondence regarding the Nechako River court action between DFO, Alcan, and the province and scientific reports that were created in anticipation of the case. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and final reports. In addition, includes records and publications relating to various other groups affected by the Kemano Completion Project or arising because of it, such as the Cheslatta Carrier Nation, the Rivers Defense Coalition, the Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, the Nechako Watershed Council, the Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund, and the Nechako River Alliance.

Rose Prince collection

Collection consists of 1 video recording (VHS) entitled "Uncorrupted : The Story of Rose Prince." The documentary, originally shown on EWTN, asks "Will Rose Prince be British Columbia's First Saint?" Director/Producer Ken Frith travels across British Columbia, Canada on twelve occasions to interview people about Rose Prince. Each journey is recorded as a short travel log showing the environment in which the interviewee lives. In addition, the film records the events taking place at the annual July pilgrimage to her gravesite at Lejac and the fact that miracles are being associated with the use of dirt from Rose's grave.

Aleza Lake Research Forest fonds

Contains significant materials covering a wide range of topics related to forestry research and forest management practices in Central British Columbia from the 1920s to the 1980s with the bulk of the materials dating from 1924 to 1963. Includes early surveys and descriptions of the Upper Fraser area, early maps and plans of the Research Forest, and historical meteorological registers from the area. Also includes unpublished scientific reports, communications, administrative and technical reports, timber sale records, and general forestry related reports and publications. Photographs include images of the Experimental Station dating from its inception and images of the Young Men's Forestry Training Program situated at Aleza Lake in 1936. Research records include experimental plot files that contain field notebooks dating from 1928 to 1958 which note locations of the experimental plots as well as sample plots from the surrounding areas of Hutton, Penny, and Foreman. The field notebooks also record growth and mortality data of white spruce balsam from 1928 to 1958 and soil types. The fonds also contains some records related to the re-emergence of the Aleza Lake Research Forest (ALRF) in the 1980s and 1990s.

Locations include the Anzac siding, the BC Rail Stuart subdivision, the Chetwynd subdivision, the Parsnip River area, Quintette, the Table River area, railway pipeline crossings, and the Wolverine River area, among others.

The Upper Fraser Historical Geography Project was conducted by UNBC faculty and a team of researchers between 1999 and 2002. The lead researchers were Aileen Espritiu, Gail Fondahl, Greg Halseth, Debra Straussfogel, and Tracy Summerville. The project resulted in the creation of 93 oral history records and their transcripts. Participants included regional forest industry executives, politicians (including former MLA Ray Williston, local mayors and Fraser Fort George Regional District representatives), forest industry workers, and former and contemporary Upper Fraser community residents. The oral histories document the rise, consolidation and demise of the forestry-based settlements along the Upper Fraser River between 1915 and 2000.

Ferguson Lake Sawmills film

This short colour film depicts logging and sawmill operations at Ferguson Lake in March 1959. Scenes include tree felling, log hauling equipment, the Ferguson Lake lumber yard, use of Ferguson Lake to float logs, and the inside operations of the Ferguson Lake sawmill. Film also includes a brief clip of family film footage of the McKay family home and garden on Melville Street in Prince George with scenes showing a Newfoundland dog named Barney with Donald McKay and Joan McKay.

ALASKAN HIGHWAY PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM. British Columbia: N.D. [ca 1945]. 10 1/4" x 13 1/4" in thick green embossed boards, with title (Photographs) in gilt and tied at spine with green cord. Photo album contains 172 original photographs and 27 real photo postcards. Photographs measure 5 3/4" x 3 1/2," with a majority captioned in manuscript. Through these photos one has visual journey of travel on the newly constructed Alaskan Highway through British Columbia and into the Yukon. The travelers set off from Fort Saint John, passing through Fort Nelson, and seeming to go as far as Watson Lake, just across the border into the Yukon Territory. Along the way, they drove through the Trout River Valley, Steamboat Mountain, Muncho Lake, and many other impressive features of the landscape. The final section of images comprise home photos of the family that made the trip and some photos taken earlier.

Bertha Wood fonds

This fonds illustrates the life of Bertha Wood (nee Schenk) before, during, and after the Second World War. Most of Bertha Wood's records were created in Ontario, where she lived most of her life. Later in life, Bertha Wood moved to Sechelt, B.C. and this is reflected in her personal records.

The fonds is divided into two series: the Personal Life series and the War Experience series. The Personal Life series includes the records of Bertha Wood that do not pertain directly to her military career. These files relate to her education, family, real estate, and daily activities, which include day books and family photographs. The War Experience Series explores Bertha’s time during World War II, with materials such as her enlistment papers, wartime photographs, newspaper clippings related to the war, and uniform objects.

Collection consists of eight interviews with experts reviewing A Guidebook for Improving Aboriginal Participation in Forest Management Decision-Making, later published with the title The Aboriginal Forest Planning Process: A Guidebook for Identifying Community-Level Criteria and Indicators by Melanie Karjala, Erin Sherry, and Stephen Dewhurst in 2003. The reviewers were chosen based on their expertise and interest in Aboriginal participation in forest management decision-making. They were asked to provide their opinions on issues related to Aboriginal participation in decision-making processes in BC, as well as feedback on the Aboriginal Forest Planning Process (AFPP) Guidebook. Reviewers had the option to make their review confidential resulting in the return or destruction of the interview. Eight of the original twenty-nine interviews are archived in this collection; the remainder are no longer extant.
