Subseries consists predominantly of publications and draft publications written by Cole Shirvell. Also includes maps, photographs, raw data, field notes, and correspondence and reports regarding field work.

File consists of a notebook containing raw data regarding water chemistry, physical parameters of streams, and electrofishing results gathered by Cole Shirvell while he was at the University of Otago.

Series consists of Shirvell’s records and collected material related to his activities as a research scientist, particularly his involvement in the Kemano Completion Project. Shirvell’s records are arranged into six subseries:

• literature review, consisting of published material;
• research and publications, consisting of Shirvell’s publications and research material;
• Envirocon and Alcan, consisting of Envirocon and Alcan publications and records;
• Nechako River court action, consisting of records related to the DFO-Alcan court case;
• Nechako Fisheries Conservation Program, consisting of material relating to NFCP; and,
• BCUC Kemano Completion Project Review, consisting of records relating to Shirvell’s participation in the public review.
  The majority of the material in all subseries consists of copies of publications related to Shirvell’s activities and research, many of which were written or annotated by him, such as reprints of journal articles, draft scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings. Shirvell’s research records comprise raw data, field notes, memoranda, and draft reports, many of which relate to his 1986 Nechako River salmon overwintering studies. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1980 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, legal documents, and related scientific reports. Also includes significant material emanating from the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review, such as correspondence, BCUC newsletters and news releases, exhibits and evidence submitted to the review panel, documents produced for the hearings, and the final report.

File consists of a draft paper from B.D. Tutty entitled "Utilization of Chinook Salmon Rearing in the Upper Nechako River", a paper by S.A. Macfarlane entitled "Utilization of the Nechako River by Chinook Salmon", and a summary of observation made and data recorded on rearing chinook salmon fry in the Nechako River by Department of Fisheries and Oceans' staff during field trips conducted from April 29 to May 2, 1980 and from June 23-29, 1980.

Subseries primarily consists of reports and publications created by Envirocon Limited, the environmental consultants contracted by Alcan for the Kemano Completion Project environmental assessment. Also includes records created by Envirocon, Alcan, and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans regarding joint meetings and Envirocon's scientific methodology.

File consists of a draft copy of a report by Envirocon entitled "Preliminary Results of Chinook Salmon Studies in the Nechako River: Volume 1 - Interim Report".

Subseries consists of records concerning the Nechako River court action that began in 1980 and ended in 1987 with a settlement agreement. The case (Attorney General of Canada vs. Attorney General of British Columbia vs. Alcan Aluminum) was in regard to the increased need for water rights to the Nechako River as a result of Alcan's Kemano Completion Project.

File predominately consists of correspondence relating to the Canada v. Alcan case. Includes an affidavit for the case, correspondence to and from legal counsel, a photocopy of Envirocon's "Review of the 1984 Nechako River Hydrothermal Monitoring and Control Program" sent from Alcan, and internal DFO memoranda.

File consists of multiple reports for water temperature monitoring data and its analysis for the Nechako and Fraser River watershed for the years 1981, 1982 and 1983. All reports by Philip Gilhousen in association with the International Pacific Salmon Fisheries Commission.

Series consists of Alderdice’s records and collected material related to the Kemano Completion Project and his activities as a fisheries biologist. Early material includes research records on total gas pressure and flow analysis research, particularly in regards to the Nechako River, which Alderdice was working on in anticipation of the Nechako River court action. Records regarding the Nechako River court action range from 1984 to 1987, and include correspondence, internal DFO memoranda, and legal documents. Records created by Alderdice after his retirement from DFO in 1987 document his involvement with the British Columbia Utilities Commission Kemano Completion Project Public Review and his connection to the Siddon v. Mair court case. Also includes copies of publications related to Alderdice’s research and activities, such as reprints of journal articles, scientific reports, government publications, and newspaper clippings.

File consists of newspaper clippings and photocopies of articles from various British Columbia newspapers, newsletters and magazines. Includes an original "Salmonid Enhancement Newsletter" (vol. 5 no. 3, 1980); a copy of the Telka Foundation Newsletter (vol. 6 no. 1, 1983); clippings from the Prince Rupert Daily News, among others; and handwritten notes.
