The Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum Society Collection consists primarily of textual, photographic, and cartographic records related to the regional developments of the railway industry in Northern BC. A predominant portion of the collection is made up of material from the Canadian National Railway; other railways represented include the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail), the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Intercolonial Railway, and the Okanagan Express. Significant geographical areas covered include Prince George, the Peace River Region, Terrace, Bulkley Valley, Hazelton and Prince Rupert.

The forestry industry is represented in the collection with operational and financial records from Fyfe Lake Sawmill Ltd., which operated southwest of Prince George in the 1950s.

The collection has been organized into series according to creator, each of which also has been arranged to subseries, file and item level, where applicable. This collection consists of eight series, as follows:

Subseries contains letterhead, pamphlets, ticket stubs and stamps used and created by Canadian Pacific Railway.

Subseries contains timecards, labour records, and employee documents.

Subseries contains materials related to employee development, union and training. Seniority lists, examination materials, memorandum and union agreements are contained within.

Subseries contains material created by various Canadian railways. Includes forms, condensed profiles, time tables and promotion material.

Subseries contains material relating to the administrative functions of the Canadian National Railway Prince George office, including financial records and publication material meant for management staff.

Subseries contains publications intended for employees and the general public, produced by Canadian National Railways, concerning labour unions, uniform code, operating rules, maintenance of way, general instructions, examination material, handling of hazardous material, operating guides, safety, and the Royal Tours of 1939 and 1959.

Subseries contains materials created by Northwood Pulp Mill, various other sawmills in Northern BC, the BC Forest Service, and BC Chemicals.

Subseries contains textual material relating to station names and locations, road crossings, and the movements of trains.

• A Canadian Ingersoll-Rand Company Limited publication “Instructions and Part List: ESH Horizontal ESV Vertical Compressors,” received and used by Vickers Krebs drawing office, 31 May 1967 (2 copies)
• Correspondence between B.C. Chemicals and other companies, 14 Mar. 1967-2 May 1967. The correspondence pertains to non-lubricated air compressors.
• A copy of Ingersoll-Rand, Air Power Compressor Division “Installation Manual ESH-ESV Lubricated and Non-Lubricated Double Acting Stationary Air Compressors,” July 1972.
• Two Flotec Inc. documents: “F Series Dimensional Data,” and “‘F’ Series Parts List: Phenolic Flexible Impeller Series.”
• Several documents pertaining to purchasing maintenance kits for air compressors. Includes advertisements, a business card, and “Maintenance Department Stores Code Sheet.”

• Invoices, correspondence and instructions pertaining to a B.C. Chemicals air compressor purchase from Bennett & Emmott in 1981. Includes an Ingersoll-Rand “ESH/V Installation Instructions” and “Parts List 5” & 7” Portable, Non-Lubricated ESV.”
• A plan entitled “20-3065 Grunewald.”
• A copy of Ingersoll-Rand, Air Power Compressor Division “5 & 7 Inch Frame, Lubricated or Non-Lubricated ESH/ESV Maintenance Instructions: Portplate Cylinder Continuous Duty Stationary Air Compressors,” Nov. 1974.
• A B.C. Chemicals memo “maintenance information” on compressors and pumps from 19 June 1978.
• B.C. Chemicals’ work forms, maintenance records, and purchase records for Item No. C-901, Air Compressor 18-3065.
• An Ingersoll-Rand Plan “Foundation Plan for 6 X 5 ESV-INL-2 Compressor,” received on 16 May 1967 and used by Vickers Krebs Drawing Office and B.C. Chemicals. (3 copies)
• A copy of a Ingersoll-Rand publication “Instructions Heavy-Duty T-Series, 7 ½ , 10 and 15 HP Type 30 Compressors,” received and used by Vickers Krebs Ltd., 28 Nov. 1966.
• Four advertisements from 1967 for Air-Maze Dry-Type Filter-Silencers received by B.C. Chemicals Ltd., and Vickers Krebs Drawing Office.
• A Canadian Ingersoll-Rand publication “Instructions for Stationary Compressor Foundation Building” received on 16 May 1967 and used by Vickers Krebs Drawing Office. (2 copies)
• A sheet of equipment notes received on 20 Mar. 1956 and used by B.C. Chemicals.
• Shipping correspondence from 1976 between Canadian Ingersoll-Rand co. and B.C. Chemicals. Two small instruction manuals, related to the equipment shipped, are also included: “Recommendations for the Installation, Fabrication, Testing and Cleaning of Air, Gas or Steam Piping” and “Section 2A General Operation: Non-Lubricated Cylinders, Vertical Units.”
• A Sarco Canada Limited Simplified Instructional Scheme for steam trapping and air venting. A completed examination, and correspondence are included in the course folios.

Subseries contains ephemera created and used by various railways and railway associations. Includes invitations, pamphlets, advertisements, a petition, and other ephemera materials related to railways in North America.

Subseries consists of interdepartmental correspondence primarily in the form of telegraphs and internal correspondence bulletin books.

Subseries contains ephemera related to Canadian National Railways.

Subseries contains maps and plans depicting railway sites in British Columbia and the Yukon.

Subseries contains BC Rail manuals, publications and directories related to BC Rail projects, operating rules, and safety.

Subseries contains material created by two American transportation companies: the Southern Pacific Company and the Guilford Transportation Industries Rail Division. Includes time tables and instructions.

Subseries contains maps and technical drawings produced by Canadian National Railways. Predominantly consists of record plans of the B.C. Mountain Region. Also includes technical drawings of CN railway equipment.

Subseries contains newspaper articles and clippings pertaining to Canadian Pacific Railway. Excerpts from the railway’s paper, CP Rail News, are also included.
