The Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum Society Collection consists primarily of textual, photographic, and cartographic records related to the regional developments of the railway industry in Northern BC. A predominant portion of the collection is made up of material from the Canadian National Railway; other railways represented include the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail), the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Intercolonial Railway, and the Okanagan Express. Significant geographical areas covered include Prince George, the Peace River Region, Terrace, Bulkley Valley, Hazelton and Prince Rupert.

The forestry industry is represented in the collection with operational and financial records from Fyfe Lake Sawmill Ltd., which operated southwest of Prince George in the 1950s.

The collection has been organized into series according to creator, each of which also has been arranged to subseries, file and item level, where applicable. This collection consists of eight series, as follows:

The British Columbia Railway (BC Rail) series consists of promotional ephemera material, employee time tables, fare rates and multiple forms, used and unused, pertaining to daily train movements and BCR operations. Several employee manuals, employee examination material, employee seniority listings, and union agreements are also contained within. Three plans detail various BC Rail sites.

The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) series consists of materials documenting CPR operations in British Columbia from 1927-1996. Series includes correspondence, time tables, publications and ephemera used or created by Canadian Pacific. Also comprises tariff and freight materials developed by Canadian National Railways and the Canadian Freight Association used by Canadian Pacific.

The Canadian National Railway series consists of administrative records, safety records, correspondence between departments, labour records, records pertaining to train movements, maintenance records, and ephemera. Includes publications concerning the topics of unionized labour, railway operation, maintenance of way, handling of hazardous materials, safety, public interest, and the two Royal Tours of 1939 and 1959. Also consists of maps and technical drawings depicting Canadian National Rail lines and equipment.

Includes publications, time tables, training materials, union materials, forms, maps and plans related to rail operations in North and South America, but predominately related to Canadian railway operations. Also comprises material created by several American and Canadian railways and transportation companies.

The Miscellaneous Forest History Material series consists of material created or used by various logging and pulp mill companies. Includes forms, union materials, maps, plans and other records related to the forestry sector in British Columbia. The series also comprises publications related to equipment and employee training, and correspondence and memorandum developed by B.C. Chemicals, a division of Canfor.

  • Correspondence between B.C. Chemicals and other companies, 14 Mar. 1967-2 May 1967. The correspondence pertains to non-lubricated air compressors.
  • A copy of Ingersoll-Rand, Air Power Compressor Division “Installation Manual ESH-ESV Lubricated and Non-Lubricated Double Acting Stationary Air Compressors,” July 1972.
  • Two Flotec Inc. documents: “F Series Dimensional Data,” and “‘F’ Series Parts List: Phenolic Flexible Impeller Series.”

  • A Sarco Canada Limited Simplified Instructional Scheme for steam trapping and air venting. A completed examination, and correspondence are included in the course folios.
