Northern BC Communities

Series consists of 103 photographs (both prints and negatives) of Northern BC communities. Photographs derive as follows: 19 from Atlin; 20 from Barkerville; 1 from Burns Lake; 22 from Dawson Creek; 1 from Decker Lake Falls; 3 from Fort St. James; 23 from Fort St. John; 1 from Hazelton; 1 from McBride; 8 from Pouce Coupe.

The Northern BC Archives Historical Photograph Collection consists of images representing a variety of subjects areas including but not limited to Transportation and Utilities; Industries; Geographic Features; Military; First Nations; and Exploration, Discovery and Travel. The geographic focus of this collection stretches from Williams Lake to the Yukon border, and from the Alberta border to Haida Gwaii.

Photo description on accompanying photo album page: " 'Yonge Street' at Teslin Lake, Yukon. The centre tent was used by the radio men. Teslin, 130 miles south of Whitehorse, is the site of one of the aircraft radio stations on the new Edmonton-Whitehorse circuit, paralleling the Alaska Highway."

Dear Mrs. Cooper, I am up in the wild part of BC now where men horses and everything get drowned every day, sometimes automobiles get drowned also. This is the way we travel up where I am now. I saw a boat upside down in this Canyon it had a bundle of blankets tied on it and one oar was dancing in the whirlpool. This made my hair stand straight up and down.”
