CPR at Harrison Mills

Photograph depicts the CPR at Harrison Mills. It is at mile 68.1 from North Bend and about 8 miles west of Agassiz. The depot has long since been removed. The nearest cabin was manned, presumably by the bridge tender/swing span operator of the bridge. Immediately behind the photo spans the Harrison River. The swing span carries a double track and is interlocked.

Photograph depicts the CPR swing bridge crossing the Harrison River at Harrison Mills. It is a plate girder bridge carrying a double track. The bridge tender occupied a shanty at the east end of the bridge at mile 68.3 from North Bend. The timetable states that trains may proceed at restricted speed after stopping, if the tender fails to appear after 4 whistle signals and the hone signals show stop.

Photograph depicts the CPR at Haig, B.C. It is at mile 40.1 from North Bend. Since about 1970 it has ceased to exist as it no longer appears in the staff timetables. Prior to the building of the road/rail bridge at Hope in 1916/1917 it was the closest depot to Hope, which was reached by ferry. The road to the former ferry dips down on the right of the photo behind the clothes lines. The view is looking northeast.

Photograph depicts the CPR at Haig, B.C. It is at mile 40.1 from North Bend. It is close to Hope but on the opposite side of the Fraser River. This is a water tank car, formerly a locomotive tender, possibly #41575. It had no dates.

Photograph depicts the CPR line at Revelstoke. It shows the termination of a spur running southwest through the city for about 1/2 mile from the main line to the cliff edge, below which runs the Columbia River. It may originally have been built to service the original town of Revelstoke which lay below, close to the sternwheeler's landing.

Photograph depicts the Pritchard CPR depot, 24 rail miles east of Kamloops, in the Shuswap Subdivision at mile 104.3. The depot house on the south side is empty, and the depot itself was used by track crews fro their equipment. In June 1968 the buildings and the spur had gone.

Photograph depicts the CPR Drake St. yards in Vancouver. It shows CPR locomotive #3716, 2-8-0 Consolidation. It was built in February 1929 at the Montreal Locomotive Works. It was acquired in 1966 from the CPR by the city of Port Coquitlam. The locomotive is not renovated or repainted, and the fire box is in poor shape. Considering that is has been 5 years in the open it has little or no vandalism. All gauges in the cab are still intact.

Photograph depicts a general view of the C.P.R. yards adjacent to Ballantyne Pier in Vancouver. The sheeted units in the middle distance consist of an export train of 11 locies, travelling dear, just brought in by the G.N.R. switcher. The locomotives were built by General Motors, Electro-Motive Division in La Grange, Illinois. For shipment to Korean National Railways, Pusan. Diverted to Vancouver because of the U.S. Pacific Coast long shoreman strike.

Photograph depicts a CPR caboose #436917 in New Westminster. It is all wood and was built in 1928. It was lettered "Rubbish service between New Westminster and Coquitlam." A crewman said it was quiet running compared to modern all metal ones.

Photograph depicts CP rail interchange yards about 1/2 mile west of the city center of New Westminster. In the view is CP baggage car #272046 made by the Canadian Car Co. It is now in use as a horse box with end loading.

Photograph depicts Pier #2 in Vancouver at the north end of Columbia St. It shows disconnected trackage on the east side of the pier that was formerly serviced by the CPR. It has not been in use for some years. The switch fittings were made by the Nelson Iron Works in Seattle.

Photograph depicts an unnamed harbour road that runs to the north of , and parallel to Water St. The trackage is connected behind the camera to a CPR depot and at the other end to the mainline. No spurs lead off to the docks. The track is not used but usable.

Photograph depicts the CPR line at the northeast edge of the Drake St. yards, adjacent to the east foot of Nelson St. The box car behind steel in photo is CP #37948, built in May 1946. It has a notice "To be used between Mainland Ice Co., Coach yard, and Coquitlam. It was still there on the 6 March 1975. The spur continues for 200 yards beyond the icehouse and divides into 2 lines to service a plant at 196 Smithe St. The building is now used as an art school and the trackage is disused.

Photograph depicts a view in a lane on the south side of the 1300 block of Richards St. in Vancouver. It includes a Louisville & Nashville car # L&N 109534, that is "paper loading only", has blue paintwork, and was built in June 1953. The end of the spur is at about Drake St. but it is covered in gravel for the last 25 yards. The car was spotted at the Cascade Imperial Mills Ltd. located at #1205 Richards St. Two-thirds of the block is occupied by the Johnston Terminals, Merchandise Storage Division. The building has 6 rail access doors but only 4 are in use. There is usually at least 1 car spotted along the building.
