Subseries consists of material created and collected by Kent Sedgwick during his involvement with the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail Association. Sedgwick was the treasurer and later the president of the Alexander Mackenzie Voyageur Route Association. The association was formed to create the first official heritage trail in British Columbia. The trail is now called the Nuxalk-Carrier Grease Trail and is part of the route across Canada followed by Alexander Mackenzie in 1789 to 1793. The association aided in having the route recognized by each provincial government and the federal government. The files primarily consist of management plans, summary documents, booklets, and pamphlets created by the association, the provincial government, and Parks Canada.

Subseries contains material collected and created by Kent Sedgwick for research on various areas in British Columbia and Alberta. Includes written notes by Kent Sedgwick, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings relating to towns and settlements. These areas include Quesnel, Likely, the Yukon Telegraph Trail, Barkerville, Wells, the Cariboo region, Fort Alexandria, Soda Creek, the Chilcotin region, Jasper, the Rocky Mountains, Mackenzie, Tumbler Ridge, the Peace River region, Fort St. James, the Omineca region, Kitimat, Lethbridge, the Bulkley Valley, and Fort Mcleod. These files cover a variety of topics including Chinese people in British Columbia, land settlement, tourism, and historic information on the regions.

Subseries includes works collected by G. Gary Runka. Runka collected a comprehensive resource library of publications, reports, and rare grey literature that reflected the depth and breadth of natural resource issues in British Columbia. Material from this resource library was intrinsically tied to Runka's work; selected unique items from the resource library are contained within this sub-series to contextualize the scope of land management issues.

Subseries includes material collected by Kent Sedgwick regarding the Duke of Sutherland. The Duke of Sutherland is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The fourth Duke of Sutherland was Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower who lived from 1851 to 27 June 1913. Toward the end of his life, the 4th Duke began moving his wealth and life to Canada. The Duke owned land across British Columbia and Alberta and contributed to various settlements, including Strathnaver, BC; Windermere, BC; Brooks, AB; and Clyde, AB. The Duke of Sutherland owned the Sutherland Land Company, creating and selling plots in BC and Alberta. He also worked closely with the Canadian Pacific Railway to support immigration and settlement of the area.

Subseries consists of digital records created by Gary Runka and Joan Sawicki in the course of their personal lives, Land Sense Ltd. business, and professional careers. Records consist of correspondence, invoices, reports, tables, faxes, quotes, and other documents. Also includes some digital map and image files. The majority of these records are directly tied to Land Sense Ltd. client files (Series 2020.4.6) and likely represent the digital originals of some of the files represented within that Client Files Series.

Subseries consists of publications, manuscripts, and drafts of worked written, co-written, or edited by G. Gary Runka over the course of his career. Also includes conference proceedings that contain contributions by G. Gary Runka.

Subseries consists of correspondence and accompanying informational material related to the Department of Manpower and Immigration as well as immigration and unemployment issues in general, particularly as they pertain to northern British Columbia. Records include news releases, newsletters, brochures, speeches from the Minister of Manpower and Immigration, reports, applications. Includes correspondence regarding unemployment insurance, wage scales, immigration policies, the Green Paper on Immigration and Population, and job creation programs. Includes project status summaries and applications for grants from the Local Employment Assistance Program, the Opportunity for Youth Program, the Canada Works Program, and the Young Canada Works Program.

Series consists of digital records on optical disc media (CDs and DVDs) created or collected by Gary Runka and Joan Sawicki for personal and professional purposes. Includes computer back-ups, film documentaries, and digital publications on disc.

Subseries includes research material created and collected by Kent Sedgwick relating to land survey, development, and settlement in Prince George and British Columbia. Land surveys were conducted in British Columbia by surveyors George Dawson, the North Coast Land Company, Alfred R.C. Selwyn, and the Geological Survey of Canada during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. James C. Anderson and engineer J. Gill conducted topographical surveys for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway on Fort George and the Indian Reserve. Surveyors and land plot companies developed the land for sale to promote settlement in the area. Also includes materials regarding the continued development of the City of Prince George throughout the 20th century. The files primarily consist of newspaper clippings, research notes, and photocopied documents.

Subseries contains material collected and created by Kent Sedgwick for research regarding various areas surrounding Prince George. Includes materials on the Crooked River area; Summit Lake; Ferguson Lake; Chief Lake; Salmon Valley; Mud River; Beaverly; Buckwater; Chilako River; Indian Reserve no. 4; Blackburn; Pineview; Stone Creek; Red Rock; Woodpecker; and Hixon. The files primarily consist of research notes and photographs depicting the communities.

Series consists of print photographs created or collected by Gary Runka over the course of his personal and professional life. Includes school portraits, sporting event photographs, and work-related group portraits. Also includes aerial photographs of the West Coast Trail.

Gary Runka was a hobbyist photographer and documented his work and personal life through photography as he travelled across every region of British Columbia. This slide collection documents the evolution of British Columbia communities and regions over a 30 year period. Gary Runka's core interest was land and changing land uses. Many of these slides tell a story of urban edge and/or natural resource compatibility/conflict. There are also a substantial number of slides related to soils, including soil profiles, soil erosion and land (topography, drainage etc.) capability for agriculture. The collection also includes specific client-related photos, tied to Land Sense Ltd. client file job numbers.

The collection also documents personal travels and hiking trips throughout British Columbia and backpacking in some historic areas, such as West Coast Trail and Cape Scott. These slides also represent land evolution over time, including extent of alpine glaciation or biodiversity/plant species inhabiting the area.

Subseries consists of speeches written and delivered by G. Gary Runka over the course of his career. Runka's earliest speeches relate to the Canada Land Inventory. While at the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC), Runka was often asked to present to various audiences on BC's unique agricultural land preservation program, the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). After leaving the ALC and setting up Land Sense Ltd., Runka continued to make presentations on the ALR, both specifically and in the context of rural land use conflict in general. Runka's key message was very consistent - the importance of first understanding the inherent biophysical messages of the land; then recognizing the complex challenges of sorting out who gets to use which rural lands for what purposes. Runka's speeches were often accompanied with 35mm slides from his slide collection. Unfortunately, however, the speeches do not include a listing of the slides that were used, although a notebook remains that contains references to slides used in presentations.
