Jack Carbutt Collection

The fonds consists of audio reels and dubbed audio cassettes of a radio programs hosted by Jack Carbutt at CKPG Radio in Prince George, and includes transcriptions in electronic and textual format. This collection has been divided into the following three series: "Audio Recordings" (2000.21.1); "Transcriptions" (2000.21.2); and "Miscellaneous Materials" (2000.21.3).

Item consists of a recording of the local radio program "For What it is Worth" a monologue by Jack Carbutt on current affairs. Also includes interview by Carbutt with Armand Handley (?) of Aleza Lake and Gordon Walter in September 1980.

Prince George Oral History Group Collection

The initial collection consists of seven audio cassettes containing oral history interviews on various aspects of life in Prince George conducted by members of the PGOHG. These recordings document various social aspects of Prince George and region's community history including experiences of pioneer teachers, and the history of lawn bowling.

Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum Collection

The Prince George Railway & Forestry Museum Society Collection consists primarily of textual, photographic, and cartographic records related to the regional developments of the railway industry in Northern BC. A predominant portion of the collection is made up of material from the Canadian National Railway; other railways represented include the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail), the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Intercolonial Railway, and the Okanagan Express. Significant geographical areas covered include Prince George, the Peace River Region, Terrace, Bulkley Valley, Hazelton and Prince Rupert.

The forestry industry is represented in the collection with operational and financial records from Fyfe Lake Sawmill Ltd., which operated southwest of Prince George in the 1950s.

The collection has been organized into series according to creator, each of which also has been arranged to subseries, file and item level, where applicable. This collection consists of eight series, as follows:

The Baxter Album

This photograph album consists of photographs of members of both the Baxter and Taylor families including (the Baxters): Violet (nee Taylor) Allan, Fred, Dick, Edna, Harriet and Bob Baxter; Bea (nee Baxter) Skaret and Margaret (nee Baxter) Lund; and (the Taylors): Hermina, Ellen, Lucy, Arthur (and Art's wife and son), Virginia, Tom, and Hugh Taylor. Identified geographic locations include Summit Lake, Mud River, California, Cottonwood River, Cluculz Lake, and Prince George. Subjects identified in this album include: family gatherings, picnics, automobiles, working horse team, snowshoeing, landscape vistas, and a King George V Elementary School class photo. Textual items include two booklets and a brochure.

Perry and as such, has been divided into the following four series: 1) Photographs; 2) Political Activities; 3) Business Ventures; 4) Personal Life; and 5) Miscellaneous Historical Information Files. Also includes material relating to his son, Frank Perry, and his failed political campaign. Includes World War II and Post-War printed materials.

Types of records included in this fonds include Speakers' Decisions (1877-1943) in the BC Legislative Assembly, maps, publications, reports, correspondence, advertisements, telegrams, resolutions, minutes, annual reports, telegrams, resolutions, reports, speeches, press releases, proposals, plans, charts, file notes, memoranda, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, ephemera, postcards and photographs.

Photographs in this series document Perry's political career, his business enterprises and his familial connection with relatives in England. Other featured subjects include various transportation modes (ca. 1913) used in the BC Interior, as well as railroad and bridge construction in the same era.

Political Activities

Series documents H.G.T. Perry's political activities primarily in British Columbia. They include his tenure as Mayor of Prince George (1917-1918; and 1920); as Member of the Legislative Assembly for Fort George (1920-1928 & 1933-1945); as Speaker (1933-1937)and Deputy Speaker (1924 to 1928) of the Legislative Assembly; as Minister of Education (1941- 45); and as Chairman of the Post-War Rehabilitation Council (1942-194?). This series is comprised of significant materials covering a wide range of topics related to Northern British Columbia (such as Northern BC political and economic developments); World War II and Post-War Rehabilitation and politics in British Columbia.

Collection consists of material resulting from Dr. Mike Evan's Island Cache Recovery Project Collection.
