Language and script note
Historical language note: An extremely racist poem entitled "The New Mountie" was published on page 24 of this issue of the Cassiar Courier. This poem includes racist depictions of Sikh and Southeast Asian people. Northern BC Archives does not condone racism. This historical language has been maintained in its original form, in keeping with archival practice, to preserve the context in which the records were created. This approach, while potentially upsetting, allows for the critical assessment and questioning of historical material by contemporary researchers. Please see our Statement on Language in Archival Descriptions for more on on how we are working to address problematic issues in the archival record in a way that balances with our modern context.
